The first day of November and a soggy one it is!
How is that for an inviting looking day….and this was the good part!
Not a lot out there today…at least close in…these were part of a flock of American Wigeon that were flying around and finally decided to land.
So much rain came down over night that the gravel bars are turning ‘wet’ again…
There was a lot of eagle activity out there…the grey is water…not gravel..
Don’t know if you can make them out (trying clicking on the photo to enlarge it), but those two trees in the background, which are over on the western edge of the Harrison River, were packed with Eagles today.
The trees down off of the golf course had a few in them as well and there were about 6 of them by the viewing platform.
Only other thing of note today (besides the rain) was that flock of Red Wing Blackbirds I talked about the other day…quite a few of them were down in the grass at the log bay…. There was no sign of any Swans today.
A Winter Wren was scolding me from under a wet bush.
This picture was actually taken at Miracle Beach on Vancouver Island…these tiny little birds are about the size of a golf ball and love our wet dark winters. They are more often heard than seen as they tend to run around on the forest floor in the leaf litter. If you are walking in the rain and hear quite a loud ‘tut tut’ call coming from the undergrowth….that’ll be a Winter Wren.
