After yesterday’s stormy start to the month….today is a beautiful day!
This morning started with a rainbow, caused by a lingering shower…
All that rain has caused the water to rise even further – again!
and the deeper water, has, in turn, attracted the flocks of Canada Geese. This morning when I took these pictures, there must have been close to 200 in the area, although they all took off shortly afterwards, no doubt heading to farm fields where they forage for food throughout the day.
By noon the sun was shining in full force and you can see the water is even higher than it was yesterday.
Lots of Bald Eagles (not to mention Gulls) out there today….’guesstimate on numbers would be close to 300….not only were there a lot on every inch of dry land, but lots in the sky and perched in trees as well.
This one, that would be in the 4 to 5 year old range, was perched in one of the trees at the log bay.
November, of course, is the month when the Fraser Valley Bald Eagle Festival is held. This year, on the 20th and 21st. It is always an adventure waiting to see where the water level will be as that effects viewing opportunities and also potential for steps to have to be taken to prevent visitors from creating damage to the environment. The other big question is: how many Eagles will there be? There are so many variables to the equation – this year with approximately 30 million Sockeye Salmon carcass slowly rotting all over the province….that is a lot of eagle food, so unless winter arrives further north and covers this massive food supply….numbers of Bald Eagles may be perfectly happy staying just where they are. A lot can happen in 3 weeks though….that is why no two years are ever exactly the same!
