Just wanted to quickly share a few photos from today’s Eagle Festival…unfortunately our internet cable has been out and has only just come back on…
It has been a clear, but bitterly cold day with outflow winds ripping across the estuary.
I had the pleasure of taking the Fraser River Safari boat tour…this view is of Harrison Bay…
Here is the tour boat…nice and warm inside!
under way now and it is pretty choppy out there….
Definitely a different perspective from that side of the river. Not nearly as many eagles as usual, at least on the gravel bars…just too cold and windy. The official count for the day was 1,045. A few days ago, when the boat did the same tour, 2,500 were seen.
You can see they are all sort of hanging on for dear life! that wind was wicked!
Spectacular scenery though with the sun shining on the snowy mountains!
If you were out today and wondered where all the eagles were – well – start counting white dots….they were sheltering in the evergreens out of the wind.
I’ll post more pictures tomorrow….provided my internet, not to mention power, are both working! It has been a wild few days with lengthy outages in both departments!
Can’t leave without mentioning another species for the Chehalis Estuary – a neighbour has had a Grey-crowned Rosy Finch at his feeder….will ask permission to post his photo if I don’t get one for myself.
