Two days to go…..

Two days to go to Eagle Festival and this is more like it!

Morning Scene

Morning sunshine glistening on the fresh snow and Bald Eagles along the shoreline…

Snowy Mountain

Did I mention snow?

Eagles in the morning

and Bald Eagles!  LOTS of Eagles.

Eagles and mist

Eagles everywhere…

Eagles on the shoreline

Of course one of the secrets to seeing views like this is to stay well back.  There were two of us ‘dog walkers’ enjoying the vista…but neither of us attempted moving any closer – not even to get a better picture.  These were taken with my 20x zoom.

Gull activity too

Lot’s of ‘Gull’ activity out there too….

rising mist

It was a kind of mystical perfect morning!

lower cloud cover

by lunchtime, the clouds had socked in and precipitation was starting to fall – at only 3 degrees that precipitation is ‘semi solid’! In fact the forecast is for snow tomorrow and then clear and cold ~ which, if it all comes about will make for absolutely perfect Eagle viewing ~ nothing like a bit of snow and cold to bring out the birds!

Mew Gull & Glaucous Wing Gull

I took this, just to illustrate the size difference in a Mew Gull (on the left) and a Glaucous Wing Gull (on the right).  Pair of Mallard in the background.

Out there

Still lots of Eagles out there…

lunch

This guy and his two gull friends were having salmon for lunch.

Putting up the barriers

Over my way, preparations were under way for this weekends Eagle Festival….

Eaglefestival barrier

It is a shame we have to put up barriers to stop people from roaming all over the grasslands ~ but we do ~ otherwise everyone would be trying to ‘get closer’, which never happens, it only succeeds in driving the birds away so nobody gets to see them…and much as I hate to say it…photographers are the worst!

Evening Grosbeaks

heading for home, spotted the flock of Evening Grosbeak, this is only about a quarter of the total number…

Varied Thrush

the cooler weather has brought out the Varied Thrush as well.
