Beautiful, sunny and warm day today - at least the warmest we've had for probably a couple of months.
you would think on a day like that there would be all sorts of birds enjoying the weather - well, you'd be wrong! It was one of the quietest days we've had for a long time.
a few crows around - crows are one of the earliest species to start pairing up and thinking about nesting. Crows in this area used to be called Northwestern Crows but have now been lumped in with those everywhere else and are now called American Crows.
a few Canada Geese up in one section - I think the fact that there had been hunters out earlier in the morning, was the reason there just wasn't much around, or those that were around were staying hidden.
tried walking over to the park about mid-afternoon to see if there was more activity there - but it was just as quiet although one of the few birds I did see was a Sharp-shin Hawk, so that explained that.
there must be something going on out along the Harrison though, based on the number of gulls out there...this was just one section....
as I was heading home I caught sight of movement on the ground under some bushes, wasn't sure what it was so just stood there for a bit...
turned out to be this little native Douglas Squirrel. He/she was busy eating the rose hips, in fact seemed to be taking some down into a pile of branches and grasses, although I understand that their actual winter nests are in cavities in trees.
