Good Timing

The weather right now could best be described as 'unsettled'.  We seem to be through the deep freeze, but we are hovering now around the freezing mark.  If it goes a bit above we get rain or drizzle and the snow turns to slush, if it drops a bit below we get snow and the slush turns to ice....

so it was when we set out on our walk this afternoon...after slipping and sliding from the car to the dyke itself, the drizzle stopped and it was actually quite pleasant...

this 4 year old Bald Eagle was one of a half dozen or so that were around.

not sure what happened to that whole mess of ducks that were there a couple of days ago.  A few swans were scattered here and there, and we noticed quite a bunch in a farm field as we left.  There were also geese way off in a field.

this pair of Hooded Merganser were the only ducks of any note today.  At one spot a shorebird of some sort suddenly took flight....have no idea what it might have been.  There aren't normally many shorebirds here in winter.

with the milder temperatures the snow and ice is disappearing, but still some interesting formations down along the shore.

this Belted Kingfisher with quite the mouthful was the find of the day.
