Started out all enthusiastic this morning…the sun was shining..
and there were American Robins everywhere!
Robin’s on the pavement….
and Robin’s in the trees (with the pussy willows) – just as you’d expect by this time of the year!
By mid-day, however, conditions had deteriorated. For the second day in a row there wasn’t a duck to be seen at the log bay and very few anywhere else! There was 1 Varied Thrush, a Song Sparrow and a handful of Red-Wing Blackbirds over here, so it wasn’t as dead as it was yesterday.
Speaking of Red-wing Blackbirds my sister, who lives at the northern end of the Okanagan Valley, said she heard her first Red-wing Blackbird the other day, so they are on the move…Red-wing Blackbirds are with us year round and nest in the area, but the large flocks and their practice of perching in trees and calling incessantly for what seems like hours at a time, will be coming to an end – at least until next winter.
Back to this morning though…I had notice a Hawk perched in a tree in a location where it was back lit, making ID difficult, but as I walked home…
I noticed another one….
This one definitely a Red-Tail Hawk…
The ‘Red’ Tail obvious when he shifted position. Shortly after I took this picture, it flew off in the direction of where I had seen the first one.
