Spring arrived yesterday afternoon in spectacular fashion with sunshine and temperatures reaching the teens for the first time this year… Today has been a bit on the showery side…
but you could sure tell it was spring! Birds and bird song everywhere! Canada Geese up at this end today, also some Common Merganser and a few Mallard out there in the water.
here is a closer look at this Goose pair, I could hear others calling out on the flats…
Song Sparrows, Towhees, Junco’s, Kinglets…they were all calling and singing from all over…also this pair of Fox Sparrow
approaching the log bay I first spotted this female Northern Flicker…one of at least 5 in the area….
then in the same large poplar tree – this Red-breasted Sapsucker…
the only activity out in the water were a few Green Wing Teal, way over by the main body of the flats…
but the pilings along the shore attracted first the sapsucker….
and then one of the Flickers…
of course Robins were everywhere! There must have been 40, 50 or more of them. Other species of note today were Dark Eyed Junco – almost as many as robins…and Gold Crowned Kinglets…only saw 1 House Finch and no Swallows today, although there were quite a few yesterday in the sunshine. Should also note that I saw more flocks of migrating birds flying up the river on Saturday evening, have no idea what they were.
My math skills aren't great but based on my count you had a wonderful outing. Alway enjoy seeing what you'll discover next.
