Another beautiful, sunny, warm fall day…
The water levels have dropped way down although there is still just a little bit too much water in the path to be able to walk across the grasslands yet.
The bird population was pretty typical today….Canada Geese
This mixture of American Wigeon Ducks and a Great Blue Heron….some Bald Eagles and Gulls calling way out across what will be ‘flats’ again soon.
This morning there had been a pair of Belted Kingfisher flying all over the place with a great ‘chatter’….
This photo was taken over at the log bay a few years ago and is of a male Belted Kingfisher. The female sports a chestnut coloured ‘belt’ around her middle. I don’t know if Kingfisher do their ‘courting’ in the fall and winter, but that is the only time I see pairs of them…the rest of the time they seem to be loners.
I had forgotten to mention in yesterday’s report, that there had also been a pair of Gadwall ducks out there with the Mallard and Wigeon…the above photo wasn’t taken here, but is of a male Gadwall. Gadwall are regular visitors to the estuary, but never in any great numbers.
