Eagle Festival Day 1

It would appear that this first day of the 2013 Fraser Valley Bald Eagle Festival was one of the most successful ever, at least judging from what I am hearing as far as crowds of people go.  Unfortunately due to a continuing health situation I wasn't able to get out and about as much as I would have liked to.

We did drive over to Kilby fairly early in the day....

they aren't one of the species that are counted 'officially' during the festival but....

we counted a total of 29 Double Crested Cormorant on these wires over the Harrison River.

we've been talking for a while that there were lots of Swans out on Harrison Bay and the official count confirms it with a count of 260.

Of course most people come to the festival to see the eagles....

this is the viewing tent at our site and if you look at the top of the photo you'll see some dark specks - those are just some of the Bald Eagles that were putting on quite the show at the time.

here are some more of the 'official' 1,627 Bald Eagles counted on this day.....of course if you want to see one up close and personal...

Sonsie, the non-releasable Bald Eagle from O.W.L. is always on hand.
