Today wasn’t sunny, but it was dry and not too cold…
and most importantly it was very peaceful so there was lots of bird activity all over!
For the first time this season there were American Goldfinch at the log bay..
I didn’t manage a picture today, but this file photo was taken in the area a few years ago – this is a male.
Back to today…besides the now, inevitable, Robins….
There were lots of Tree Swallows…getting too numerous to give an accurate count! I think there were a few Northern Rough Wing there today too but can’t be sure…if not today, soon!
The Red-wing Blackbirds were being quite active and vocal today…this one being a female…
There were a pair of Northern Flicker…this female was busy working on this piling…
Song Sparrows were active from one end of the walk to the other…caught this one in full song…
Back at the viewing platform it was so nice and peaceful we just sat for a while and watched – always the best way to ‘bird’…
there were numerous Ruby Crowned Kinglets in the willows…
and Yellow Rump Warbler….haven’t seen a female yet….
The Black Cap Chickadee pair were busy excavating that nesting site…coming out with beaks full of sawdust….
and these are just a sampling …Steller’s Jay were active all over , could hear a Red-breasted Sapsucker, a Great Blue Heron flew past…etc. etc.
and the number of White-crowned Sparrows is increasing.
