A day of firsts.....feeling like spring

Five days into the month of March and although it started out wet and miserable, the last few days have suddenly made it feel like spring is here already.

Thursday, the 3rd, was the transition day.....

and the day we knew the seasons were changing....there were American Robins everywhere!

lot's of Starlings too....typical for this time of year...

but it was today with temperatures reaching into the mid teens that things really started to change...

found the first dandelion flower.....

and nearby....

the first Garter Snake of the season....

then a little further along....

the first Butterfly of the season....a Mourning Cloak...

the flowering part of the Field Horsetails are emerging and I was surprised to see a Honey Bee on them....I guess this early in the season the bees will take anything they can find.

the Bald Eagle pair have been seen every day, usually near the nest.  Yesterday we also saw a Turkey Vulture but not sure if it is the young one that has been seen periodically throughout the winter, or one returning to the area....seems a little bit early for that.

Haven't seen or heard a Tree Swallow yet, but understand they have been seen just over in the Chilliwack area, so should be here soon.  Western Meadowlark have been seen in the Hope area, so they too, are on the move.
