Waiting for weather....

Today started out quite lovely, but by the time we could get out for our walk, it had clouded over and we were waiting for either more wet weather, or possibly the white stuff....

cool and quiet...

as usual, Varied Thrush are more visible on dull days like this, there were quite a few of them eating the fruit of this Pacific Crabapple.

then we spotted this little female Downy Woodpecker on this stump that has a flourishing growth of Licorice Ferns

further along we noticed several sparrows....

the chunky Fox Sparrow with it's bicolour bill and check markings on the breast...

and the streaky Song Sparrow....

further along....

and opportunity to see the difference between the goldeneyes - a male Common Goldeneye on the left and a male Barrow's Goldeneye on the right.

there were a few eagles around, but we will end with a Dark-eyed Junco....always lots of them around in winter.
