Redpolls!

A very busy day at the estuary today....

the weather was perfectly calm....

the number of Bald Eagles was very reassuring....

in fact the number of eagles perched all along the path is surprising.....and then, also along the path spotted a large flock...

of what I thought were Pine Siskin....and there were some siskin...

but there were a lot of Common Redpoll!  It isn't the first time we've had redpolls in winter but there weren't any last year so this was a treat....if they stay true to form, they will probably be in this area quite often as they feed on the seeds of the alders....hopefully I'll be able to get better photos of them soon.

the trees at the log bay were full of eagles...

there were eagles everywhere you looked.

Swans too....along with Common Mergansers....

and Anna's Hummingbirds!  Not sure why, but there were Anna's Hummingbirds everywhere today.  One tree, that they happen to favor, had 7 of them!

might as well close off with yet another eagle, after all, the time is coming when most of them will be moving on.
