Today's walk was over at Harrison Bay again....
the rain over the past few years has brought water levels up again and had washed quite a few salmon down the river so they were caught up along the shore - this of course has attracted a lot of gulls...
like these Glaucous-wings bickering over a particularly juicy salmon.
The walk had started with spotting this Pileated Woodpecker up high in one of the cottonwood trees.
Further along there were several flocks of Dark-eyed Junco, and several....
Northern Flicker were down feeding on the side of the dike, but the most exciting find, in the same area were....
Western Meadowlarks! There appeared to be 10 or 12 of them. Meadowlarks are seen at the estuary periodically and are probably out there more than we realize, this is the first time we've seen them in this area although it is typical habitat for them.
here are a couple more, typically perched on a fence line.
Of course, being the season it is there were several...
Bald Eagle, this one being a 4 to 5 year old, almost, but not completely changed into it's adult plumage.
