Chum!

They're here!

October 3 rd.....and...

there they are....the first Chum Salmon of the season.  What isn't here though are the eagles....getting a little concerning...

speaking of concerning...if you live in the area or know people who do and if those people are dog owners, please remind them to keep their dogs on a leash and to stay off of the grasslands.  Things have been pretty good the last few years but all of a sudden we have several owners of large dogs that seem to be expanding the area they are letting their dogs run off leash and of course these things escalate....one or two people do it and then others see them and figure it must be OK and before you know it chaos reigns and the poor birds have no where to go.

Back to pleasanter things....

there were masses of American Robins this morning, feasting on the Pacific Choke Cherries....

yesterday there was a large flock of Bushtits, eating the tiny seeds of the Pink Spirea or Hardhack.

Great Blue Heron continue to be highly visible....

and even if you can't see them, if you listen carefully you can usually hear some Killdeer somewhere out there.

The last few days there have been...

some juvenile White-crowned Sparrows as well.  Should mention that I have seen a couple of Eurasian-collared Doves after my last post when I said they seem to have disappeared.

Caught this...

Belted Kingfisher yesterday.....not an easy bird to get a picture of!  Hopefully tomorrow we'll get over to Harrison Bay to see what is happening in that part of the IBA.
