By this time, in just one week, the Eagle Festival will be half over…
We’ll start with some pictures taken yesterday…
We’ve had a couple of beautiful clear days but those water levels aren’t budging….for ideal viewing conditions, the water really needs to drop quite a bit.
You can see from the choppy water that there has been quite a wind blowing out of the north….so it is also pretty darn chilly out there! The swans by the way are probably a mix of Tundra and Trumpeter.
Yesterday, water fowl were seen in abundance (Mallard, Common Merganser and Hooded Merganser)…it seemed that every eagle around was soaring over head enjoying the day.
This Great Blue Heron had something to say as well!'
Overnight we had frost. I ventured down early expecting to see lots of activity – there was absolutely nothing! Why? Look very carefully at that dot right in the middle of the picture and right in the middle of the feeding area for the eagles…
Two photographers and a ‘blind’ were out there on the flats
I went back down later in the afternoon. The blind was still in place (not visible in this picture) the 2 photographers were in a kayak (presumably that is how they got there in the first place) and a few eagles had returned, whether out of acceptance to this new situation, or out of desperation for some food, its hard to say…
as if the poor birds weren’t under enough pressure, another kayak bearing another photographer was positioned out there at the same time.
How much pressure is too much pressure? This is something that has to be asked!
