Calm before the ......bear?

With a 'special weather statement' warning for the foreseeable future we thought we'd go over to Harrison Bay.....

unfortunately it was as devoid of birds as it was last visit.  There were ducks, gulls and some geese way out....

but with Salmon fishing in full swing and boats roaring up and down the river you can't really expect any birds to just sit there.

I was keeping an eye out as we'd been hearing reports of a Black Bear hanging out in the area up there just where the dike turns the corner heading back to the parking lot.  In fact heard of one couple who couldn't get past it to get to their vehicle and had to go back and walk the entire street route!  We encountered no such problem....made it back to our vehicle and were just heading towards home when....

spotted this guy (or girl) out in the cornfield!  We pulled over and watched for a while.  He (she) was pulling up the chopped off cornstalks and then would go into the blackberry bushes for a few minutes, before emerging and grabbing another stalk....

since actually seeing a bear around here is an event - you get two photos.  There were a lot of Northwestern crows and also Starlings in the same spot and this is the same corner where a family of coyotes were living in a discarded silage pile.

As far as eagles went, we didn't see or hear a single one over at the bay but earlier in the day...

there had been a lot of carry on in one of the 'eagle' trees when this youngster wanted to share....

the salmon that this guy had. - you can just see the fishes tail on the branch.
