Turkey Vultures

This 3rd day of April and it is another dull, cool wet one…not steady rain but off and on showers…

Got out for an ‘almost dry’ walk this morning…

Goose Pair

The Canada goose pair were in their favorite spot….

Canada Goose

another was in a different spot…there was probably a mate somewhere near by…another 5 flew over head as we were walking.

also flying overhead this morning were a pair of Turkey Vultures…the photo I took today didn’t turn out so have had to resort to one from my files… You can always tell Turkey Vultures from other large birds of prey because they soar with their wings held in a ‘V’ shape.

Hairy Woodpecker

Back along the trail it was quite busy…at least with lots of various calls…this Hairy Woodpecker  some Northern Flicker and Robins, there were Starlings and Red Wings and I think I might have spotted a Brown Headed Cowbird but didn’t have binoc’s and it was just too dark to tell for sure – they’ll be showing up any time now.

Salmon Berry flowers

the damp cool weather isn’t stopping the Salmon Berries from coming into full flower…of course they are native rainforest plants so thrive in these conditions.

Buffleheads

There were a few Mallard pairs about and this trio of Buffleheads…the females in the lead and the male trailing behind.
