Wet weekend

I’m not sure when I remember it raining for as hard as it rained, for as long as it rained…especially over night, it never let up, but by the time we got for our mid-day walk today the sun had actually broken through…at least for a few minutes…

Water levels are up

all that rain, accompanied by warmer temperatures, had cause the water levels to come up a bit.  That didn’t help the duck population – the only ducks I saw today were 4 Green-wing Teal here and 3 Bufflehead up the other end once the off leash dog being exercised in the wildlife habitat had headed home.

Great Blue Heron

Birds just seemed to be starting to venture out after the deluge – this Great Blue Heron was tucked up against this piling….there was a Belted Kingfisher about, but didn’t stick around for pictures, and I could hear a Flicker..

Fox Sparrow

there were 2 pairs of Fox Sparrows….this half of one pair at the log bay and the other pair further along the trail…

Spotted Towhee

Spotted Towhees in a number of spots, along with some Varied Thrush and Junco.  Also heard a Hairy Woodpecker but couldn’t spot him.

American Robin

the only ‘spring’ species seen were American Robins and I could hear them calling from all sorts of directions…

Windswept Bald Eagle

this young Bald Eagle was one of several around, everyone else were soaring in the breezes….

Eagle on post

this guy proved co-operative so got a few more pictures of him, even though the lighting was terrible so had to ‘doctor’ the pictures a fair bit.

They say the sun is supposed to shine tomorrow so lets hope so…maybe the Tree Swallows will show up with the sunshine!
