Sunny Sunday

After days of questionable weather, today dawned bright and sunny

Late afternoon

I didn’t make it out for a walk until late afternoon and by then most of the dusting of snow we had rec’d the evening before had either melted (if it was in the sunshine) or evaporated…

Snowy Woodside

at least the top half of Mt. Woodside was still white…

just a bit of snow

the temperature had only risen to 1 degree (centigrade) but was back down to 0 by this time and with the outflow breeze it felt a bit cooler than that.

Crows

the late afternoon walk did remind me though to mention the Northwestern Crows…most of the time we don’t see a lot of crows right down on the estuary, but late every afternoon, at least during the winter months, if you look up at just the right time, you can see hundreds and hundreds of them streaming from the southern areas up into the mountains to the north west of the estuary.  There obviously is a roosting site up there somewhere although I have no idea where.   All the crows in this area are the smaller ‘Northwestern’ Crows….this crow species is only found along the extreme western edge of the continent and only from southern Alaska down the B.C. coast to the very northern part of Washington state.  The larger ‘American’ Crow covers the rest of the continent but doesn’t tend to cross westwards over the coastal mountains to our area.
